Thing #13 - Library Thing

I took the Library Thing tour and made myself an account to which I have added 5 titles of books that I have enjoyed. It was interesting to see those that have added the books I did to their collections and learning what other books they enjoyed reading. I seriously doubt I will be visiting my account very often; it's just not my "thing" to keep up with. However, I do see it as a useful tool for those that read numerous books and would like to keep a list for future reference.

Thing #12 - Wikis

Just finished with Wikis. I had visited Wikipedia several times in the past and now I have a better understanding of what it is and what can be done with it. I watched the Common Craft video and visited the suggested sites, out of which liking the "Book Lover's Wiki" the best. I added a couple of entries to the Neflin Wiki which was fun. It all reminded me of last year's Vacation Bible School song, A-awiki, B-awiki, C-awiki! Oh well, onward to the next Thingie.

Thing #11 - Social Media

I have finished the Social Media portion...and am ready for ice cream after watching "Social Media in Plain English." I have toured the Mixx, Digg, Newsvine, and Reddit sites; preferring Digg of the four. It was interesting to gain knowledge of these and how they work, however I don't see myself as being a "fan" or using these sites very often.

Thing #10 - Tagging and Delicious

Well, having an awful sinus/cold combo last week I was lax in getting involved with my 23 Things courses, but today I've cleared the "medicine head" and can actually comprehend what I'm reading! I've joined the Delicious masses and I believe that I will enjoy using what the site offers. I always find sites at work and put them in my favorites and then, once home, will want to access the site and can't remember the address; using delicious will eliminate having to spend (waste) time searching for sites. Tagging will help in keeping my sites "filed" and at my fingertips.

Thing #9 - Sharing slides, photos, etc.

I used PictureTrail to make the picture cube below. This was very interesting and fairly easy, however, the project that I attempted yesterday and this morning never worked and almost caused me to pull my hair out...what I was doing wrong, I have no idea. This is just too fun to create these neat projects.

Thing #8 - Communication 2.0 Style

I have just finished reading through the info. and watching the videos regarding this section. I have also set up Google Talk and had success messaging a fellow victim...I mean worker. With everyone at our library system having email accts. I'm not sure I will use this often; however the knowledge is there if it was to ever become a neccessity. I an definitely not a "texter!" I also was successful in loading OPAL and entered the "chat" room in which I was the only one present; I didn't think it would be much fun talking with myself this early in the day so I exited! I have participated in this type of online training session before and am thankful for them because it allows me to stay at my branch and learn instead of making a long trip to train at another location.
